I grew up in a Christian home, and learned to follow God from a young age. At 3, I asked Jesus into my heart and so my journey began. My family moved here to Arnold when I was six and a year later we began to attend Arnold Community Church.  As I got older I was given opportunities to start singing on the worship team.  As scary as it was near the beginning, it really helped me start to take my faith more seriously.  With time, I got more comfortable being on stage and I began to play piano on Sunday mornings. I am thankful to God for giving me a place to use my talents to serve him.  I went to Upper Sumas Elementary School until grade six when I switched to MEI middle. It was different going to a Christian school verses secular, but the differences were positive. Having devotions every morning and Chapel two times a week helped me live a Christian life everyday, not only on Sundays. Attending a Christian school also provided me with positive role models to help me grow and learn more about my faith. As I progressed from middle to high school, however, devotions and chapel started to become routine, and it was hard to really pay attention to what my teachers had to say and apply it to my life. I knew this, and many times I would tell myself “ok now I’m going to pay attention, now I’m really going to try to grow in my faith.” It would work for about a week, then I was back to routine again. Alongside this came the thought of baptism. I had always known that I wanted to get baptized before graduating, but I usually tried to push baptism to the back of my brain. Thinking about it stressed me out. For some reason, I always thought I had to go through something that really challenged my faith before I got baptized. So, for many years of my life when the thought “baptism” came to mind, my excuse was always the same. I haven’t gone through anything amazing yet that changed my life around. Not that long ago I learned that baptism was a step in my walk with Christ. Jesus said believe and be baptized. Not “believe, go through something profound and be baptized.”
