WHO ARE ELDERS AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
Elders are individuals who have been discerned and affirmed by the larger church family to provide spiritual and administrative oversight to our entire ministry. According to our understanding of the Scriptures, they comprise a team of men who demonstrate a humble, Christ-like, and growing walk with Jesus who bring a plurality of spiritual gifts that are employed to “manage the affairs” and “shepherd the flock” of Arnold Community Church. Working closely with the Lead Pastor, the Elder Team provides broad leadership to the whole, empowering and equipping paid staff and volunteers to lead, serve, and minister according to their gifting, responsibility, and authority.
The Elder Team meets monthly, praying for the needs and issues of the church family and discussing ministry direction. The church family engages in decision making through annual and semi-annual congregational meetings while individual ministry leaders provide hands-on oversight to their specific ministries.
Pray for our Elder Team that they might grow in their understanding of God’s Word, in prayer, and in their role as a husband or father. Pray also that they might have great wisdom in serving God’s people. The apostle Paul states that it is a “noble task” (I Timothy 3:1) to serve as an “elder” or “overseer” and therefore these individuals need our prayer and encouragement.
